{"id":24,"date":"2019-03-16T20:45:40","date_gmt":"2019-03-16T20:45:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/barry.phease.nz\/blog\/?p=24"},"modified":"2019-03-16T20:45:40","modified_gmt":"2019-03-16T20:45:40","slug":"brexit-ramifications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/barry.phease.nz\/blog\/?p=24","title":{"rendered":"Brexit Ramifications"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>2 July 2016:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Everybody seems to have an opinion what Brexit will mean.&nbsp; It seems \nthere is a lot of variations that could play out, but it is hard to \nimagine that England and Wales will still be in the EU in 3 years time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The financial markets have followed the script almost exactly so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Because the result was unexpected a lot of people dumped shares on the basis that it is best to panic first.<\/li><li>Then shares started to look cheap and the bargain hunters piled in and the prices rose again, almost back to what they were.<\/li><li>Next week the bargain hunters will stay away and the late panicers \nwill start selling and shares will gradually decline ( I would be \nselling now if I owned UK shares).<\/li><li>The pound is staying lower because the market is assuming an interest rate drop in London.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I am not an investment analyst and I don\u2019t take any responsibility for others decisions, but I have seen it before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UPDATE 27 July:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It looks like I have misjudged the investment sentiment. &nbsp;Brexit will\n clearly be bad for British business and they are in for some bad \neconomic times over the medium term. &nbsp;They will be exacerbated by \ncontinuing austerity measures. &nbsp;So long term the UK sharemarket will \ndecline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I think the drop in value of the pound has made UK shares look cheaper which might explain the continuing strength.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2 July 2016: Everybody seems to have an opinion what Brexit will mean.&nbsp; It seems there is a lot of variations that could play out, but it is hard to imagine that England and Wales will still be in the EU in 3 years time.
